Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about how we work with deep tech startups, what we deliver, and how engagements typically run.
Commplicated is a specialist PR and design firm built specifically for deep techs. Founded in 2023, it was the first agency in Europe founded solely to focus on deep tech and frontier technologies. Its clients work across quantum computing, frontier AI and physical AI, defence, robotics, and biotech. We work with science and engineering-led companies to shape their messaging and external awareness, helping to build them into category leaders.
Commplicated.Design, our brand and design studio in Copenhagen, has been part of the group since 2025. What sets us apart is that Commplicated and Commplicated.Design combine communications and visual identity in one integrated approach, from messaging and media to brand, websites and pitch decks.
Commplicated is based in London and Commplicated.Design is based in Copenhagen. We work with deep tech teams across the UK and Europe.
Hailey Eustace founded Commplicated in London in 2023. She began her career on the investment side at the $485 million Texas Emerging Technology Fund, at the time the US’s largest deep tech focused seed fund whose portfolio included SpaceX. She went on to lead communications and branding at MassChallenge, the world’s largest startup accelerator, and later joined a Cambridge-based AI biotech startup as a senior operator. Alongside Commplicated, Hailey is an active angel investor focused on early-stage deep tech startups. She also serves as a Venture Scout at Ada Ventures and provides mentorship and advisory support to founders through Founders at the University of Cambridge, Imperial Enterprise Lab, Royal Academy of Engineering, and Deeptech Labs, and has spoken at leading deep tech conferences like TechBBQ, Hello Tomorrow, Nordeep, and Deep Tech Momentum.
By deep tech, we mean companies built on significant scientific or engineering breakthroughs. These are businesses grounded in fields like physics, materials science, biology and advanced computing. They are hard to build, hard to explain and hard to replicate, which is exactly why strategic clear messaging and communications matter.
We work with early-stage deep tech startups across the UK and Europe, from preseed to pre-IPO across all areas of deeptech.
Commplicated is built to work specifically with deep tech startups and we build around you. Typical scope includes strategic messaging and positioning, brand strategy, media relations, pitch decks, funding announcements, content creation, LinkedIn strategy and management, event curation, speaking opportunities, and media training.
We help deep tech founders explain what they do, build credibility with investors, customers and media, and reach their next business and funding milestones. This has meant we have helped our clients raise over £500 million in three years from top investors in Europe and the US.
Depending on scope, we deliver messaging and positioning, media relations and coverage, funding and launch announcements, pitch decks, articles and LinkedIn content, and preparation for events and media interviews.
This is a hard balance to strike for deep techs, but crucial to get it right. Our messaging strategy identifies the “wedge” in your business – the key idea that makes you stand apart and win – then amplifies it as part of an integrated, consistent communication strategy.
Yes. We help founders prepare for a round with messaging, pitch deck design and funding announcements, and release news at key moments to show momentum. We also optimise your content for AI discovery from VCs.
How should a deep tech founder prepare for the next funding round?
As early as you can. Communications work best as a long-lead effort that builds reputation and credibility before you raise. If you plan to raise in the next 6–12 months, now is a good time to talk.
Yes. Most of the companies we work with are early-stage, and if you're still in stealth, we're happy to work under an NDA. Credibility doesn't have to wait for revenue or customers. We help founders build it through a clear story, evidence of their expertise and external validation, such as media coverage, awards, grants and partnerships.
Yes. We work as part of your team, alongside founders, in-house marketing and other partners, so messaging, media and brand support your business goals.
No. We work as part of your team, alongside founders, to help develop strategy and then execute.
Yes. We work as one team with Commplicated.Design, our design studio in Copenhagen. Together, we build a unified brand: including the narrative and messaging, and the visual identity, website and pitch deck that present it.
Commplicated.Design is our brand and design studio in Copenhagen. It creates brand identities, websites and visual stories for deep tech companies across Europe. Commplicated and Commplicated.Design work as one team, so a company's narrative and its visual identity are built together, from messaging and media to brand identity, websites and pitch decks.
Yes. We can work with what you have, whether that's sharpening your messaging, building on an established brand or creating a new narrative if the current one no longer fits. The key is scoping it to your goals and constraints.
Most of our work is ongoing, on a retainer, because communications build reputation and credibility over time rather than in a single push. We also take on defined projects, such as a funding announcement, and agree the scope up front so expectations and deliverables are clearly defined.
Yes. If you're in stealth or sharing sensitive information, we're happy to work under an NDA.
We specialise in deep tech, and our case studies show the work and the coverage behind that focus. We were founded by a deep tech investor turned communications operator, and our team combines communications experience with backgrounds in deep tech startups, research and investing. We work as part of your team, well beyond media relations, and as one team with Commplicated.Design.
If you can, share your company name and a link to your website. It also helps to know what you're looking for, such as messaging, media relations or a funding announcement, and any deadlines, such as a round or a launch. If you're not sure yet, a short description of what you're building is enough to start.
Within 2-3 work days. A person from our team in London or Copenhagen will get back to you.
